IMBIF Book Club 4 - Eifelheim by Michael Flynn
The Discussion is Set to Occur Near the End of April, 2024
The fourth book club book for I Might Believe in Faeries is Eifelheim by Michael Flynn. Mr. Flynn recently passed away this past September, 2023 so we should keep both him and his family in our prayers.
Eifelheim started out as a novella and was published in 2006. Flynn expanded the story into a novel in 2007 and both the novella and the novel were nominated for a Hugo Award. I read this book a number of years ago and this is a perfect excuse for a reread.
This is a first contact story that primarily takes place in a Medieval town in Germany wish some flash forwards to researchers in present day America. From what I remember, Flynn does a masterful job capturing the Medieval imagination and trying to reconcile Thomistic natural philosophy with the hyper-advanced technology of the alien visitors.
As always, participation in the discussion is limited to those who are paid subscribers to either this substack or the I Might Believe in Faeries patreon page:

However, the discussion will be free for anyone to listen once it is released.
I am hoping to have the episode out April 30, 2024 and the recording will likely take place sometime the week before.
Enjoy the story!
